The senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on South East Development Commission, Sen. Prof. Anthony Okorie Ani, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China (His Excellency, Ambassador Yu Dunhai) at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.
During the visit, Senator Ani expressed profound appreciation to the Ambassador for being a true friend of his people, and seeks extension of a periodic and fully-sponsored Chinese vocational and digital training programmes to his constituents, especially the youth, in order to equip and raise the next generation of leaders in the zone, with the relevant technical and digital skills for optimum performance and requisite certifications for global competitiveness.
The vocational and digital skills expected to be covered, include: Solar Energy Technology, Sustainable Investments, Data Infrastructure Construction, Application Technologies, Internet of Things (IoT) Technology, and more importantly, access to business opportunities, etc.
He noted that the knowledge and skills they’ll acquire from these programmes would go a long way in reshaping their perspectives and improving their livelihoods, and helping them to compete in the global market.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yu Dunhai commended Senator Ani for his leadership and commitment to people-oriented development. He emphasized the shared values and common aspirations between Nigeria and China, expressing optimism that Nigeria would soon attain greater heights in its developmental journey.
The Ambassador also lauded the 10th National Assembly, through the support of statesmen like Senator Ani, for their continuous efforts in fostering stronger diplomatic and economic relations between both nations.
The visit further cemented the mutual friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and China, particularly in the areas of human capital development and cultural exchange.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to continue working closely to ensure fair visa policies that support legitimate travel for business, tourism, and technology transfer, etc.
