Ebonyi Deputy Governor, Obila stands tall amidst uncertainty over her 2nd term bid.
**Uncertainty over candidate for Afikpo/Edda Constituency
Those wishing that Governor Francis Nwifuru drops the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila in his second term bid were disappointed at the meeting convened by the Ebonyi APC on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
The meeting of the state APC stakeholders was widely believed was going to address the issue of who’ll run with Nwifuru next year but it turned out no such issues were discussed.
Not even the matter over who becomes the APC candidate for the Afikpo/Edda federal constituency was resolved. The social media has been inundated with different versions of stories between Iduma Igariwey and Joseph Ekumankama on who flies the APC flag for the Constituency.
The National Working Committee of the APC has been playing hide and seek as it has not come out to declare emphatically who their candidate for Afikpo/Edda federal constituency is except to advise its members to watch out for its ratified list from the party’s official channels.
To such people, it was a big surprise to see the Deputy Governor address the gathering on behalf of the Governor who was away on overriding state engagement.
The office of the Deputy Governor has also reacted to the rumours on the health of the Deputy Governor and declared that she was in good health and was effectively discharging the duties of her office. Meanwhile Governor of Ebonyi State and Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has congratulated all APC candidates who emerged victorious during the recently concluded party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Nwifuru represented by the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila during an expanded State APC Stakeholders Meeting held commended the state, zonal, and national leadership of the party for their doggedness and commitment to democratic ideals, which ensured a seamless and transparent electoral process. He expressed immense gratitude to the party stakeholders, Local Government Council Chairmen, and all APC faithful for their peaceful conduct before, during, and after the primary elections.
The Governor charged all members to immediately close ranks, put the primaries behind them, and work collectively as a united front to guarantee a landslide victory for all APC candidates in the forthcoming general elections. He further issued a strong directive to all political stakeholders and grassroots mobilizers to actively encourage citizens to participate in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and emphasized that maximizing the state’s voting strength is critical to consolidating the political relevance of Ebonyi State on the national stage.
In his remarks, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the APC, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, congratulated the flagbearers and charged party faithfuls to take ownership of the upcoming elections. He urged members to see every candidate as their personal project by massively mobilizing grassroots support.
Chief Emegha also issued a stern warning against any form of anti-party activities, stressing that the party leadership will not tolerate indiscipline or actions that undermine the APC’s collective victory.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected APC candidates, Sen. Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi expressed profound gratitude to Governor Nwifuru, the state party leadership, and the entire APC faithful for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured the stakeholders that the flag bearers are fully prepared for the tasks ahead and are committed to making the party and the people of Ebonyi State extremely proud.
