Three years into the administration of Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, it is only fair that Ebonyians pause to reflect on the journey so far under The People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.

Governance, after all, is not a sprint but a relay race, where each administration builds upon the foundations laid by its predecessors while creating new pathways for future progress. Development itself is a gradual process, often measured not only by what is seen but also by what is felt.

Since assuming office, Governor Nwifuru has demonstrated a commitment to people-centred governance by embarking on projects and policies designed to improve the welfare of Ebonyi citizens. While public attention naturally gravitates toward roads, bridges, buildings, and other physical infrastructure, some of the administration’s most profound achievements are those that cannot be readily photographed or showcased.

Among these are the payment of long-standing gratuity arrears owed to retired civil servants. For many elderly citizens who had almost resigned themselves to hopelessness, this intervention restored dignity, renewed confidence, and brought relief to countless families. To those beneficiaries, the payments were not merely financial transactions; they were lifelines.

Equally commendable is the overseas scholarship programme that has opened doors of opportunity for numerous young Ebonyians. Beyond the beneficiaries themselves, entire families have been uplifted through access to world-class education and exposure. These scholarships represent an investment in the future, one whose dividends will continue to benefit the state for decades to come.

The administration’s medical assistance for ageing stakeholders and vulnerable citizens have similarly demonstrated compassion in governance. Combined with the revitalisation of primary and secondary healthcare facilities, procurement of modern medical equipment, and recruitment of healthcare personnel, these efforts are gradually strengthening the healthcare delivery system across the state.

Education has not been left behind. The recruitment of teachers and other personnel into the state workforce has helped address manpower gaps while creating employment opportunities for many young people. Likewise, the numerous youth and women empowerment initiatives have provided livelihoods, stimulated economic activity, and reinforced social inclusion.

Yet, perhaps one of the most significant achievements of the administration is one that often goes unnoticed: PEACE.

The relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in Ebonyi State deserve recognition. Peace is the foundation upon which every meaningful development rests. Roads can be constructed, schools can be built, and hospitals can be equipped, but without peace, such achievements become difficult to sustain. Governor Nwifuru’s efforts in maintaining harmony among diverse interests and communities within the state deserve commendation. As the Holy Bible reminds us, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”

This famous verse (Matthew 5:9) from the Beatitudes in the Bible means that those who actively seek to resolve conflicts and spread harmony will be recognized as God’s children because they reflect His character.

Of course, the administration’s work in infrastructure and public works remains highly visible. Across the state, numerous projects have been completed, while many others are at different stages of execution. As these projects come to fruition and their cumulative impact becomes more evident, Ebonyians will have even greater reasons to celebrate. Those who have doubted or misrepresented the Governor’s intentions may eventually come to appreciate the broader vision behind his policies.

However, development should never be measured solely by concrete structures and physical projects. The intangible investments in human capital, healthcare, education, social welfare, and peacebuilding are often more consequential than visible monuments.

Unfortunately, because such initiatives do not always attract immediate applause, many political leaders shy away from them.

It therefore takes a leader with courage, compassion, and genuine concern for his people to pursue these less celebrated but highly impactful interventions. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has demonstrated the political will to tread that path. It is a path where beneficiaries often remain silent, where sacrifices are rarely acknowledged, and where critics are quick to dismiss efforts whose rewards may only become fully visible with time.

The People’s Charter of Needs Agenda remains firmly on course, steadily and quietly delivering on the mandate entrusted to this administration by the people of Ebonyi State. The Governor deserves commendation for his resilience, determination, and refusal to be distracted by cynicism or discouragement. Public service requires perseverance, especially when the fruits of one’s labour are not immediately recognised.

In celebrating the Governor’s achievements, it is equally important to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of his wife, Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru. Through her humanitarian initiatives, #BERWO Foundation particularly those focused on widows and other vulnerable members of society, she has complemented the administration’s developmental efforts in remarkable ways.

Her housing projects for widows across Ebonyi State stand as enduring symbols of compassion and empathy. For many beneficiaries, these homes represent more than shelter; they signify hope, security, and renewed dignity. Such interventions deserve recognition for their transformative impact on countless lives.

As Ebonyi State enters another year under the present administration, citizens should continue to offer their support and cooperation.

Leadership is never an easy task. It is often far easier to stand on the sidelines and criticise than to bear the enormous responsibility of making difficult decisions on behalf of millions of people.

Constructive criticism remains an essential component of democracy, but so too is patience, understanding, and appreciation of genuine efforts. The burden of leadership becomes heavier when every action is viewed through the lens of suspicion or political bias.

It is my prayer that God grants Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru the wisdom, strength, good health, and grace necessary to continue serving the people of Ebonyi State. May he never allow the attitudes of detractors or the ingratitude of some to diminish his passion for service or alter the compassionate disposition for which he is known.

Finally, we must remember that Ebonyi is still a relatively young state, with every community, every local government area, and every zone yearning for development and government attention. Realistically, no administration can address all needs simultaneously. Development is a continuous process, unfolding over time and across successive administrations.

What is important is that progress continues. One project after another, one community after another, one zone after another, one Governor after another, every part of the state will eventually feel the impact of governance. History teaches us that great societies are not built overnight. Rome was not developed in a day, and neither will Ebonyi attain its full potential in a single administration. What matters is that the journey continues in the right direction.

Judging by the progress recorded so far, the People’s Charter of Needs administration has every reason to remain focused on that noble path.
