Fresh political tension has rocked the All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State as loyalists of David Umahi and Governor Francis Nwifuru trade fierce words over the battle for control of the party structure.
The crisis exploded after Umahi reportedly declared that no order existed stopping political aspirants from obtaining nomination forms, a comment that triggered outrage within the Ebonyi APC hierarchy.
In a strongly worded reaction, the party accused the former governor of throwing the state chapter into confusion and encouraging indiscipline among ambitious politicians. The APC warned that any attempt to pursue political ambitions without the governor’s approval could spark chaos and destabilize the party’s carefully built leadership structure.
Party spokesman Arum Kenechukwu described the development as shocking and dangerous, insisting that such statements from a respected party leader could ignite unnecessary political unrest across the state.
The party further cautioned members not to interpret Umahi’s remarks as a green light to bypass established authority, while also suggesting that the minister’s media handlers may have twisted the narrative in a manner capable of creating the impression of a cold war between Governor Nwifuru and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
