The Governor of Ebonyi State Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has expressed delight in the enormous roles of Catholic women in promoting family values, community development, moral uprightness, and spiritual growth of the State.
The Governor admonished the Catholic Women to imbibe the rarest qualities of the holy mother, Mary, whose humility, strict pursuits of things that edify the spirit made her the mother of the Savior of mankind, Jesus Christ.
This was contained in a message to the occasion of Mothering Sunday, a day set aside by the Church to honor the virtues of motherhood, celebrate the dignity of women, and recognize the immeasurable contributions mothers make to the family, the Church, and society at large.
“I celebrate you, because you, our mothers remain the moral compass of our homes, our assistants in building the future, the co- custodians of faith, and the silent architects of peace and social stability”.
“Your sacrifices, prayers, resilience, and devotion continue to sustain our families and strengthen the very fabric of our society.
He explained that “Mothering Sunday is not merely a religious observance, but a profound recognition of the sacred vocation of motherhood as ordained by God.
“It is a moment to celebrate women who, through love and sacrifice, shape generations and inspire hope.
The Ebonyi State Chief Executive noted that this year’s Mothering Sunday offers another opportunity to reassure the people of his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes that uplift women and improve their overall well-being, in line with the enduring principles of our People’s Charter of Needs Agenda”.
” Through our interventions in healthcare, education, rural development, social protection, and economic empowerment, we have continued to create pathways for women, particularly rural women to thrive.
“I must specially underscore the remarkable impact of the Better Health for Rural Women, BERWO, the noble pet project of Her Excellency, my dear wife, designed specifically to address the peculiar health and welfare challenges facing women, especially those in rural communities.
“BERWO has become more than a programme it is a movement of compassion, restoration, and empowerment.
He emphasized that through BERWO, thousands of women have benefitted from improved access to healthcare services, maternal support initiatives, health education, medical outreaches, and interventions aimed at reducing the burden of preventable diseases among women.
“This aligns perfectly with our broader vision that no woman, no mother, and no family should be left behind in the progress of Ebonyi State.
According to the Governo “beyond BERWO, our administration has continued to invest in infrastructure, security, agriculture, and human capital development in ways that directly impact women from improving access roads that ease rural trade, to strengthening healthcare facilities, enhancing security in our communities, and supporting livelihoods that help mothers provide for their families.
“As we celebrate Mothering Sunday, I urge our mothers to continue to uphold the values of faith, peace, discipline, and moral instruction that have long distinguished Catholic women and to continue to pray for our State”. The Governor said.
