The Governor of Ebonyi State,His Excellency, Rt. Hon Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has extended his heartfelt condolences to the Akpa Isu Oko Family of Ezi Nnali, in Afikpo Local Government Area of the State over the death of their Brother, Prof Hamilton Obiahu Isu
The late Professor of Banking & Finance was the immediate younger brother to former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor,1999 – 2003, His Excellency, Late Engr Dr Emmanuel Oko Isu. He served as Special Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Economic Matters(Office of Vice President Atiku Abubarka) in the year 1999 – 2003
In his remarks during the Requiem mass at St Patrick Catholic Church, Afikpo the Governor who was represented by the Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, NWACHI, Timothy A. U described the deceased as an ardent believer in national Unity, peace and progress, noting that he left an impressive legacy of discipline, honesty, integrity and hard work that will be a reference point to those occupying public offices
The Governor who recalled with sadness that the late University Don was dedicated to his duties and service to the Nation as a Lecturer in Imo State University and later Abia State University, where he participated actively for the accreditation of various tertiary institutions and programmes, prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul
He charged members of bereaved family, friends and associates to honor the memory of the late sage by continually upholding the values and principles which he lived for and never stopped fighting for till his death
In a tribute, the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Her Excellency, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila described late Professor Obiahu Isu as a gentleman and someone of good work ethics as well as one of the brightest stars in Economics and Banking & Finance and urged the family to be comforted by the worthy legacies he left behind
The funeral was attended by family members, In – Laws , friends and colleagues from University of Abuja, Abia State University and other Tertiary Institutions
Professor Hamilton Obiahu Isu who was also the Chief Economic Adviser to General Abdusalami Abubakar (1998 – 1999) died on Saturday, the 22nd Day of February 2025 at the age of 80
