The Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, NWACHI, Timothy A. U. has commended the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, for the diligent preparations ahead of the Local Government Council Election scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2026
NWACHI, gave the commendation on Tuesday during a sensitization visit by EBSIEC officials to Afikpo LGA held at the Council Headquarters.
The EBSIEC Team, led by the Chairman of the Commission, Chief Patrick Enyi, engaged stakeholders including political Office Holders, Leaders of Political parties, Candidates of Political parties, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Community Heads, women groups, youth organizations, Persons Living with Disabilities, and civil society groups on the arrangements, guidelines, and timetable for the forthcoming election.
Describing the Commission’s visit as timely and a demonstration of transparency, the Executive chairman of Afikpo LGA called on all eligible citizens of Afikpo who have not yet obtained their Permanent Voter Cards to do so immediately in order to vote for candidates of their choice in the upcoming elections.
He further assured EBSIEC of the local government’s full support to ensure that the election is conducted peacefully, transparently, and successfully in Afikpo.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, Chief Patrick Enyi, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and inclusive election across all 13 LGAs of the state.
He urged all relevant stakeholders especially Political parties and their candidates as well as their supporters to strictly abide by electoral laws and EBSIEC guidelines, and called for maximum cooperation to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Chief Enyi also encouraged eligible voters, especially women, youths, and Persons Living with Disabilities, to collect their PVCs and turn out en masse on election day to exercise their civic responsibility.
Also speaking, the EBSIEC Commissioner in charge of Information,Voter Education and Publicity,Chief Collins Agbo, stressed that their coming is also to strengthen voter education and sensitization across all wards in the State.
He charged stakeholders to help disseminate accurate information on the election process, timetable, and voting procedures to guarantee effective participation and reduce voter apathy.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka; former Council Chairman, Hon. Gerald Obinna Agha; Board Member, Chief Dr. Donatus Ezeogo Aja; DPO, Afikpo Division, CSP Chioma Chikwendu; and Ezeogo Patrick Oko Agha, expressed satisfaction with the measures put in place by EBSIEC to ensure a credible poll.
They pledged to mobilize their people to comply with EBSIEC guidelines and to promote a peaceful process, before, during, and after the election.
In a vote of thanks, the Electoral Officer, EBSIEC Afikpo LGA, Mrs. Ngozi Ogbu, who commended the Council Chairman for the massive mobilization of expected stakeholders for the sensitization exercise, noted that the Council Chairman’s support and cooperation have created an enabling environment for EBSIEC in Afikpo LGA to carry out its duties effectively and seamlessly.
She therefore implored all participants to take the message home and disseminate it across all levels of the society to ensure maximum awareness ahead of the August 22 polls.
