Traders in Ebonyi State have declared support for the re election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at a solidarity convention held in Abakaliki.
The one day event, organised by the Ministry of Market Development and Parks in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Market Development Board and the Ebonyi Traders and Market Association, took place at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium.
Speaking at the gathering, the Commissioner for Market Development and Parks, Prof Nwogo Ajuka Obasi, outlined what he described as key achievements of the Nwifuru administration in the markets. He cited improved security presence, the removal of multiple taxation affecting petty traders, youth empowerment initiatives and the clearing of unauthorised structures within major markets.
He said the measures have improved trading conditions and strengthened commercial activity across the state, adding that the administration has remained responsive to the needs of traders.
In a goodwill message, the Chief Executive Officer of Choice Sanitary Wares Ltd, Mr Dominic Nwibo, expressed appreciation to both leaders and said their re election deserved support.
Several market leaders from different parts of the state also spoke, commending government policies and urging continuity.
A representative of the Presidency, Dr Kelechi Igwe, a former Deputy Governor of the state, who was represented by the Executive Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Barr Sunday Nwankwo, acknowledged ongoing federal projects in the state and thanked traders for their show of support.
Governor Nwifuru, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof Emmanuel Echiegu, thanked the organisers and assured traders of continued attention to their concerns.
He said the administration would sustain policies aimed at improving the market environment and supporting small scale businesses.
At the event, the traders, through the Chairman of the Market Traders Association, Comrade Okpoto Godwin Ome, and the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Market Women Association, Hon Patience Nwali, formally endorsed the President and the governor for another term.
The highlight of the convention was the presentation of certificates of endorsement to both leaders.
