The Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon . Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has called on the Federal Mortgage Bank to ensure the construction of at least 1000 Housing units in each of the states in the country.
This he said , will also encourage States to complement it with at least another 1000 units to address perennial Housing problems in the country
Governor Nwifuru spoke Wednesday in his office, Ochudo Centenary City Abakaliki when he held an audience with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria led by its Executive Director, Ms Chinenye Chinedu Anosike.
He stated that his administration has taken a quantum leap in the provisions of housing, adding that plans are underway for the construction of another 600 units of Duplexes.
Housing, he insisted forms a critical part of his administration and will ensure it delivers over 1000 housing units before the end of his administration.
“We are talking about practical development. Whatever you do without housing, it means there is no practical development because shelter is important”.
While commending the country’s housing top financier, Governor Nwifuru restated “Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, is doing very well when it comes to services”.
He further stressed the need to close the doors against contractors with poor industry experience, ensure quality and durable housing units, and urged the FMBN “to collaborate with the Nigerian Institute of Building and the Standard Organization of Nigeria”.
Governor Nwifuru, while insisting on modern housing standards befitting of context statues, said ” in the quest for provision of shelter for the Federal Workforce, the FMBN should rethink their continued investments in bungalows but consider raising structures that will befit the location and give it infrastructural facelifts”.
Explaining the reason for the visit, Ms Chinenye Chinedu Anosike, said that the FMBN sought to collaborate with the state to provide housing estates to the people.
“The Ebonyi proposed Housing Estate” Ms Anosike noted “is approximated to provide 800 housing units for the state’s workforce”.
To achieve this, the FMBN boss explained “This will be done under the private and public partnership arrangements with the Ebonyi State Government expected to provide onsite and off-site amenities and also provide unencumbered lands for the execution of the housing projects”.
