The Provost of Ebonyi State College of Nursing Sciences, Uburu, Mrs. Patricia Nwankwagu, has declared that the institution has attained a new height under her administration with full accreditation and massive infrastructural expansion.
Mrs. Nwankwagu disclosed this in Abakaliki when the management of the College interfaced with the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Education.
According to her, the College has secured full accreditation for ND and HND Nursing Programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and full accreditation for Nursing and Midwifery Programmes by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
She further disclosed that the College emerged best at the South East Nurses Olympiad Quiz Competition and second best at the National level in 2025.
The Provost attributed the transformation of the College to the massive support of the State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in the areas of infrastructural rebirth and provision of modern health equipment.
Mrs PatriciaNwankwagu highlighted recent milestones of her administration to include Construction of a storey building Arts Classroom Block with 400-capacity FON Hall, sinking of a motorized borehole for Staff Lodge, ongoing construction of 800-capacity students hostel,-fully functional mini ICT Hall, expansion of sports facilities, construction of 20,000 litres overhead tanks for hostels, second best position at 2026 South East debate competition, organization of matriculation ceremonies and award of certificates to graduating students.
The Provost said Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is a rare gem that comes once in a generation as he has demonstrated uncommon political will to transform society, which he has practicalized in Ebonyi within just three years in office.
She noted that her administration deliberately repositioned the College to produce highly competent and quality nurses and midwives for the State and the nation, and appealed to the Committee to consider an amendment of the law establishing the institution to meet current realities.
Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Barr. Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, said the interface was aimed at assessing the operational level of the College, including its progress and challenges.
Hon. Nwodo commended the Provost for her administrative ingenuity which has brought visible development to the College, particularly the exceptional environmental cleanliness and academic discipline.
He said in consideration of the central role of good health in engendering development, the present administration under Governor Nwifuru did not rest on its oars until the health sector was reformed to optimum capacity, hence the recruitment of health personnel and massive infrastructural development in health institutions across the state.
Contributing, members of the Committee Hon. Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri representing Izzi West, Hon. Victor Nwoke representing Abakaliki North, Hon. Goodluck Obinna Mbam representing Izzi East and Hon. Joseph Ununu representing Abakaliki South described the Provost as a competent and experienced technocrat whose wealth of experience has repositioned the College, and assured the institution of continued support of the House Committee.
