Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has dispelled insinuations of any rift between him and the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi over the adoption of consensus in the selection of aspirants for the forthcoming elections.
Stakeholders had at a series of meetings with the Governor agreed on the contestants that will fly the APC’s flag in the elections.
Highlights of the decisions as announced by the former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim after the meetings include the return of all the National Assembly members and most of the state assembly legislators, especially those who have done only one term.
This sharply contrasts with the position of the former governor, Engr David Umahi who had expressed reservations over consensus and was reported to have advised all those interested to pick nomination forms and present themselves for primaries.
But a Press Statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Nwifuru, Dr Monday Uzor said that those insinuating crisis between the Governor and his predecessor were fanning the embers of discord.
According to him, the two are rather working together for the progress of the party in the state.
“The party remains one indivisible family where all the aspirants to various positions will be treated equally as agreed by the stakeholders”, the statement stated.
The statement further announced that all outstanding issues regarding the consensus, if any will be amicably resolved adding that aspirants and party faithfuls should close ranks and make sacrifices where needed in the interest of the party.
The Governor and leader of APC in the state thanked stakeholders who participated and made contributions at the meetings and announced that he will meet with all the aspirants.
