– As Ebonyi State Commissioner for Environment and SEMA Officials visit Victims

In a poignant display of solidarity and concern for the people of Enohia Itim, who recently suffered a devastating flood that claimed lives, destroyed farmlands, and damaged property, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, NWACHI,Timothy A. U. on Tuesday donated food items to the families that lost loved ones in the tragic incident.
In addition,the Council Chairman approved the payment of a monthly allowance for the upkeep and Educational pursuits of the bereaved children.
NWACHI, who led a delegation of top government officials, including Honorable Commissioner for Environment, Rt. Hon. Victor Chukwu and the Executive Secretary of Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Clement Ovuoba, to the flood-ravaged area, expressed deep sympathy to the flood victims and assured them of government intervention in the humanitarian crisis they found themselves.
In his remarks, the Hon Commissioner for Environment, Rt Hon. Victor Uzoma Chukwu, conveyed the heartfelt condolences and sympathy of Ebonyi State Government to the affected families and urged Ebonyians in flood-prone areas to relocate to prevent similar tragedies.
On his part , the Executive Secretary of Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Clement Ovuoba, who also expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident, explained that their visit was to have on the spot assessment of the incident as well as assess the level of damage by the flood for submission to the Governor of Ebonyi State and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for humanitarian interventions.
Some of the members of the Community who spoke including the Coordinator of Ubeyi DC,Hon Aisha Nwachi; Alhaji Hassan Olughu (Community Leader); Mr. David Egwu ( Vice Chairman, Enohia Itim Town Union); and Madam Fransica Ukpai (Woman Leader) explained that the torrential downpour causing the flood, ravaged farmlands, destroyed crops, and capsized a canoe that led to fatalities.
They noted that the incident has caused an enormous humanitarian crisis, prompting requests for assistance from government and non-governmental organizations for the affected families
To complement the Council Chairman’s humanitarian aid, the Chief of Staff to the Council Chairman, Apostle (Dr.) Uduma Peter Agha, donated a substantial amount of money to the victims while Hon. Aisha Nwachi, the Coordinator of the Development Center, donated food items to the victims,and at the same time awarded scholarship to a child that was the only survivor of the boat mishap
