The Federal Government of Nigeria appears to be glued to her position on the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) going by actions in an Anambra community.
The declarations of the group as a terrorist organisation that was made by the previous administration of former President Buhari re- manifested with the invasions and raids by the security operatives in Umuchu community in Aguata local government area,Anambra state which was reported to lead to the missing of some youths in the community.
In the course of investigations carried out as far back as February, this year by a section of journalists after the security action in the area,a senior security personnel who spoke on grounds of anonymity disclosed to the media that the Federal government under the current President,Alhaji Ahmed Tinubu is out to clamp down on the IPOB members,a clear indication that the FG still maintains her policy on IPOB as a proscribed Terrorist organisation.
It should be recalled that the former President Buhari had during his administration declared IPOB as a terrorist organisation which sparked controversies and was reported to entail the arrest and prosecutions of the IPOB leader,Nnamdi Kanu and several other members some of who have died in detention. Report had said the same Nzubechukwu was directly involved who only returned to his village to face the security raid that triggered his as escape according to community sources.
Many youths in different communities in the South- East have been reported to be killed on the suspicion of being IPOB members while some have been reported to have escaped.
At Umuchu community in Aguata local government area, Anambra state,sources disclosed that the recent ceasless raids by the security operatives in search of IPOB members have made some youths to escape for their dear lives.
Among those still missing according to community sources include one Nzubechukwu Nathaniel Okafor who they described as a responsible and peaceful youth leader and who is suspected to be the third in command of the IPOB in that zone and others whose names were given as Chinedu Okoroafor;Dominic Okereke; Nwabueze Ugoeze;Kingsley Umeh, suspected as a second in command in their zone.
Revelations emerged that since after a sudden invasion of the family house of Nzubechukwu in that community that went with sporadic shootings,his whereabout has not been ascertained along the other youths.
It should be recalled that a mega Igbo peaceful protests organised by the IPOB that took place in Orlu in 2023 that sparked their clash with the security operatives resulting to loss of lives became a major point of IPOB’s clamp down.
As at press time,there was no clear report from the Nigerian Police about the missing of Nzubechukwu Okafor and the other youths who are still missing.
