Reports from across the State indicated that the All Progressives Congress APC House of Representatives primaries were generally peaceful.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after monitoring the exercise.
He commended the stakeholders, and other leaders of the party for ensuring that the primaries across 6 federal Constituencies of the state were very peaceful, calm and devoid of rancour among all contestants”.
“We are consolidating on our earlier consensus agreement”, he said.
On those alleged to be working against the consensus arrangements, he maintained that their ambitions are not in conflicts with democratic ideals.
“Those who are contesting are in line with democratic ideals.
“Some of our members resigned their positions. Resignation does not equal incompetence.
“They want to pursue their ambition out of sheer personal convictions.
“They are in order. Democracy thrives when there is virile opposition. So we accepted their resignation and wished them well.
“Our happiness is that the outing today went as planned and expected. It was very peaceful and calm”.
The Governor called on members of the party to also participate actively in the remaining primaries slated for next week.
