The Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Chief Mrs. Lami Danladi Ogenyi, has issued a heartfelt appeal for unity and restraint among the people of Apa-Agila and Ezza communities in Ado Local Government Area, following escalating tensions in the region.
She expressed profound sorrow over reports surrounding the crisis, particularly the alleged unprovoked killing of Elder Godwin Egwurube Omokwe, an indigene of Agila, whose remains were reportedly discovered near an Ezza settlement within Ado LGA, and is now calling for the people to come together during this challenging time.
She noted that the unfortunate incident has heightened tension between the two communities and poses a threat to the long-standing peaceful coexistence in the area, but remains hopeful that the people can navigate this difficult period.
Speaking with a heavy heart, the Rt. Hon. Deputy Speaker urged youths and stakeholders from both communities to remain calm, exercise restraint, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, instead working towards finding a peaceful resolution.
She emphasized the need to allow for a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Deputy Speaker further called on the Divisional Police Officer of the Igumale Division, alongside all security agencies operating in the area, to act swiftly and decisively to restore calm, maintain law and order, and ensure that justice is not only served but seen to be served.
