The Ibru Unity Cup for the year 2025 kicked -off on Saturday,December 13, 2025 at Government Secondary School Afikpo, marking another momentous season in Afikpo Local Government Area.
The event was graced by the Executive Chairman of Afikpo LGA, NWACHI, Timothy A.U., alongside other dignitaries, including: Hon. Aisha Nwachi, Coordinator of Ubeyi DC; Hon. Ken Orji Obasi, Coordinator of Afikpo DC; Hon. Raphael O. Okoronkwo, Coordinator of Afikpo DC; Hon. Baron Ogbonnia Enya, Coordinator of Amasiri DC; Apostle Uduma Peter Agha, Chief of Staff to the Council Chairman; Hon. Enyi Alagha, Supervisor for Youths & Sports; SSAs/SAs to the Council Chairman; Community Heads; Youth Presidents and Football enthusiasts
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area,NWACHI, Timothy A. U expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for promoting unity and togetherness in the state.
He commended Chief Ibru Ogbonnia Nwachi for replicating the Governor’s vision through the Ibru Unity Cup, using football as a powerful tool to bring people together. The Council Chairman also lauded Chief Ibru’s remarkable impact on the society through scholarship awards and other humanitarian interventions, urging him to remain focused in his service to humanity.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Hon. Iheukwumere Okogwu Otu, highlighted the extensive preparations for the Ibru Unity Cup, disclosing that 16 teams will participate in the competition, with a prize money of ₦5.5 million up for grabs.
The opening match between Enohia Itim F.C and Lions F.C of Ngodo/Amachi was an electrifying encounter that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. At the end of the day, Lions F.C emerged victorious, defeating their opponents 1-0.
The Ibru Unity Cup promises to be an exciting and unifying event, fostering Unity and promoting sports development in the area.
