The Chief of Staff to Ebonyi State Governor, Prof Emma Echiegu has extolled the transparent nature of the State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru in executing government projects .He said that his government is founded on honesty and transparency .
He said since the inception of the government no dime had been borrowed to finance any project in the state despite gigantic projects being undertaken by the government
He stated this when members of the Steering Committee of the League of Veteran Journalists paid him a visit in his office at the New Government House, Abakaliki.
According to him, nobody will believe that despite the billions being spent on different sectors including projects and infrastructure, as well as continuing with uncompleted projects inherited from past administions, the state government has not borrowed money from anywhere.
He said that the priority of the state governor is on well being of the people and is not in scoring cheap political point at the detriment of the people.
He said no governor in the country was more committed to the welfare of the people than the state governor adding that he was God’s gift to the people of the state.
Prof Echiegu also spoke on the award of overseas scholarship to over 300 Ebonyians to study for masters and doctorate degrees including local scholarship programme
Earlier, the Chairman of the league of Veteran Journalists in Ebonyi state, Barr Iduma O Iduma said they were on visit to inform him of their availability to serve the state in any capacity based on the fact that they have capacity and experience in Journalism. He commended the state governor for his welfarist approach to governance and pledged the support of the league of Veteran Journalists to his administration.
He said the membership of the Organization is made up of very senior Journalists, Editors of print and electronic media, online news publishers, Journalism teachers ,former Chairmen and secretaries of NUJ and Chief executives of media houses including those who had retired in the profession
In his vote of thanks the secretary of the Association, Mr Godwin Okafor commended the Chief of Staff for his hospitality and quick acceptance of the invitation.
The Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Dailygrandnews, an online news platform, Dom Isute told the CoS that the league is made up serving and retired journalism gurus who had practised for up to 30 years or more but were still fit and ready to serve. Others who also spoke included Barr Chris Egbu, Director EBBC, Mr Oti Ama acting GM EBNPC and Elder Ude Agwu. The delegation included a former Chairman of NUJ in Ebonyi State, Mrs Veronica Osim and Ugwumba Emereole, member Nigerian Guild of Editors.
