In the quiet corners of Ebonyi State, where forgotten dreams once lingered and voices long unheard faded into time, a new dawn has broken. Today, a chapter of justice and compassion unfolds as His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, brings long-overdue relief to our retired local government workers, heroes of yesterday whose sacrifices built the foundation of our present.
From today, October 6th to 8th, 2025, beginning with Abakaliki Local Government, the Governor’s committee has commenced the payment of gratuities owed since 1996. For nearly three decades, many of these retirees waited, some in pain, many in deep silence, for what they had rightfully earned. Today, their silence has been heard. Their service has been seen.
Yes, this gesture is a policy fulfillment, but significantly, it is a heartbeat of leadership with soul. It mirrors the Governor’s earlier move, which cleared gratuity arrears for State Civil Servants, an act that was not only unprecedented but also deeply human.
As former Governor Martin Elechi reflected during the 2025 Independence Day celebrations, Governor Nwifuru’s leadership is not just about politics; it is empathy in motion, care made visible, and governance rooted in humanity. In a world often marked by neglect and bureaucracy, this moment stands out, a rare and dignified acknowledgment of those who gave their all. How else do you demystify governance?
To every retiree whose hope was fading, this is your time. To every family waiting in quiet despair, this is your healing. Seize the opportunity and mark the dates to ensure you do not miss them. And to the leader who chose to remember the forgotten, thank you. You have not only paid debts, but you have also restored dignity, rewritten stories, and reminded us that leadership, at its best, listens.
Ebonyi State is on the rise, not just in healthcare, education, security, infrastructure, industrialization, and so on, but in the hearts of its people. Because our Governor leads, not with noise, but with grace.
