Despite political misrepresentations, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s commitment to placing Anambra State on a solid economic and developmental footing is undeniable. His raft of innovative projects demonstrates a clear grasp of tomorrow’s demands. Among them is the fast-emerging Solution Innovation District (SID), now taking shape at the Old Government House, Awka. Alongside the Solution Fun City, the planned ring road network linking major cities, and his audacious vision of turning Anambra into “Africa’s Dubai, Taiwan, and Silicon Valley”, the state is deliberately preparing for the future.
Vision in leadership is rare. It demands an understanding of the past and present to chart the path ahead. Few leaders read the signs of the times, fewer still act upon them. Afrobeat icon Femi Kuti lamented this void in his 1998 hit Sorry Sorry, a song that skewered Africa’s leaders for letting the continent lag behind while the world advanced. Nearly three decades later, the same question looms: where are the visionary leaders capable of lifting Africa out of the woods?
Since assuming office on 17 March 2022, Prof. Soludo has sought to answer that question. From day one, he unveiled a governance template built on global competitiveness. His manifesto set a bold target: to make Anambra a global destination. With every project — schools, hospitals, transport, or digital hubs — he has tied development to the future.
During a site inspection of the new SID complex on 9 September 2025, Soludo declared: “We must focus on tomorrow. The old order is gone. Technology is our mantra.” The SID is designed as a hub of digital skills, business incubation, and access to investment, directly targeting youth unemployment. Already, over 20,000 young people have passed through SID’s LevelUp Anambra scheme, with 10,000 more expected annually. Partners like Microsoft and Wootlab Foundation are working with the state to position Anambra as a hub for Africa’s rising digital tribe.
Technology hubs transform economies and societies. From Silicon Valley in California to Bengaluru, Nairobi, and Lagos, they have birthed jobs, attracted capital, triggered infrastructure upgrades, and inspired tailored solutions to local problems. Lagos’ fintech boom and Nairobi’s M-Pesa revolution show how innovation clusters can alter a continent’s trajectory.
Anambra is positioning itself to join that league. With the SID, smart schools across local councils, modernised hospitals, compulsory free education in state-owned primary and secondary schools, and the vibrant Solution Fun City already operational, Soludo’s “Solution Government” is laying bricks of resilience and prosperity.
If spared the deadweight of politics, these innovations could make Anambra not just competitive in Nigeria, but a genuine player on the global stage.
