The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Governments has carried its oversight duties to Afikpo with a commendation to the Council Chairman, NWACHI Timothy A. U for his achievements within one year in office. The Committee lauded the performance of the LG boss especially in the building of a befitting secretariat for the area within seven months and noted that Afikpo people were very lucky to have him as their chairman. The Chairman of the House Committee who is also the member representing Izzi East in the State House of Assembly, Hon Obinna Mbam said that they were in Afikpo to investigate the type of relationship that exists between the Chairman and Local Government legislature, the executive and staff and to ascertain that they are not being shortchanged. Hon Mbam called on the functionaries of the Council to speak out so that the House can take action to correct any injustice they may suffer. The lawmakers unanimously endorsed the achievements of Nwachi and enjoined him not to neglect the welfare of the people. Earlier while receiving the members of the Committee in his office the Local Government Chief Executive had listed his achievements and their costs adding that his actions were driven by the desire to leave a lasting legacy even after his tenure. He commended the team for its thoroughness and transparency in execution of its oversight. Other members of the committee who spoke during the visit include the leader of the House, Rt. Hon Kingsley Okoro, Hon Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali, Hon Arinze Lucas, Hon Ifeanyi Ogba, Hon Chinyere Nwogbaga and Hon Steve Orji Igwe as well as Hon Nkemka Okoro Onuma. Highlight of the visit was the opportunity given to the local government legislators to bare their minds on the relationship with the local government boss. The Leader of the Council, Hon Joel Inya Egwu who spoke for the councillors maintained that the Chairman has done well and has given them all their entitlements. The APC Chairman in the LG, Hon Nicodemus Egwu also spoke in the same vein describing the coming of Nwachi as a blessing to the area.
