*Payment commences with Abakaliki LG Oct. 6, ends with Onicha Nov. 28
Local government retirees from Ebonyi State can now rejoice as the long period of waiting to be paid their gratuity has come to an end.
Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has graciously approved the payment of arrears of pensions and gratuity to all local government government retirees from 1996 to 2025.
According to Mrs Catherine Ogbu, Chairman of the committee for the payment, the exercise will commence with Abakaliki local government area October 6. From the time table for the payment, each of the local government areas will take three days for their payment.
The details of the payment schedule is as follows:
- Abakaliki LGA – October 6th, 7th, & 8th, 2025.
- Afikpo LGA – October 9th, 10th & 13th, 2025.
- Ebonyi LGA – October 14th, 15th & 16th, 2025.
- Edda LGA – October 17th, 20th & 21st, 2025.
- Ezza North LGA – October 22nd, 23rd & 24th, 2025.
- Ezza South LGA – 27th, 28th & 29th, 2025.
- Ikwo LGA – October 30th, 31st & Nov. 3rd, 2025.
- Ishielu LGA – November 4th, 5th & 6th, 2025.
- Ivo LGA – November 7th, 10th & 11th, 2025.
- Izzi LGA – November 12th, 13th & 14th, 2025.
- Ohaozara LGA – November 17th, 18th & 19th, 2025.
- Ohaukwu LGA – November 20th, 21st, 24th & 25th, 2025.
- Onicha LGA – November 26th, 27th, & 28th, 2025.
The statement listed the venue for the payment as Old Government House Exco Chambers and they are expected to come with the following, letters of Confirmation of Appointment, Authorization, Letter of Administration (in case of dead officers). Others are
evidence of Pension or Gratuity paid,
pension I.D. Card,
last Gen 35, bank account account number,
last pay slip and
one passport photograph.
It is estimated that over ₦10 billion will be paid to the senior citizens.
The retired local government staff, some have since died have endured the non payment of gratuity for years, especially during the eight year period of former Governor David Umahi.
