The Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Timothy Nwachi has received the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Hon. Justice Elvis Ngene, on a courtesy visit to his office.The Chief Judge, accompanied by other judicial officers, had just concluded a jail delivery exercise at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Afikpo Custodial Center.During the jail delivery exercise, the Chief Judge reviewed awaiting trial cases, ordering the release of 5 inmates while 2 were remanded. The Executive Chairman commended the Chief Judge and the judiciary for their commitment to dispensing justice, noting that the release of the 5 inmates justified the saying that “the judiciary is the last hope of the common man.”The Chairman praised the State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for creating an enabling environment for the judiciary to function independently. He urged stakeholders in the administration of justice to remain firm and advised the freed inmates to make good use of their newfound freedom to live meaningful lives.In his remarks, the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State,Hon Justice Elvis Ngene thanked the Council Chairman for his dedication to his duties and highlighted the purpose of their visit, which was to conduct the jail delivery exercise in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Hon. Justice Ngene who assured that judicial officers would continue to uphold justice and protect citizens’ rights, also implored members of the public, especially youths, to desist from activities that could lead them to correctional facilities.
