Afikpo Local Government Headquarters was abuzz with activities on Tuesday as the Acting Governor of Ebonyi State, Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, paid a momentous visit that marked another significant milestone in the State’s humanitarian efforts.
The visit, aimed at flagging off the distribution of relief materials and disbursement of funds to flood victims in the area, demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to the welfare of his citizens.
Princess Obila, while expressing sympathy to the flood victims, stressed the need for preparedness and vigilance, especially during the rainy season, and called on the people of Ebonyi State to adopt precautionary measures to mitigate the impact of future flood disasters.
During the flag-off ceremony, the State Acting Governor praised Governor Nwifuru’s exceptional leadership in responding to the flood disaster, highlighting his vision for a compassionate and responsive government that prioritizes the needs of its citizens.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Council, NWACHI, Timothy A. U., expressed heartfelt gratitude to the State Governor for his benevolent leadership and timely intervention in response to the flood disaster.
He appreciated the Governor’s unwavering support and commitment to the welfare of the people of Afikpo, assuring that the people of Afikpo would reciprocate the gesture in the 2027 Governorship election.
The Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, and the Executive Secretary of Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Clement Ovuoba, lauded the Governor’s humanitarian intervention, describing him as a rare leader who prioritizes the well-being of his people. They commended his selfless efforts in ensuring that the affected communities received timely support.
The event, attended by prominent stakeholders of Ebonyi State, including political office holders (present and past), royal fathers, Founding Fathers, security agencies, religious leaders, and Women Groups, was an eloquent testimony to the government’s dedication to supporting those affected by the recent devastating flood. The relief materials and funds disbursed to the victims of Enohia Itim and Kpoghirikpo communities brought solace and hope to the affected families, better equipping them to rebuild their lives.
Governor Nwifuru’s swift humanitarian intervention has undoubtedly demonstrated the government’s empathy and compassion towards its citizens, leaving the good people of Afikpo Local Government Area eternally grateful.
